yellowjackets_fansThis was for a challenge about the meanings of names.Maybe Taissa (from Yellowjackets) was quite an obscure choice, but on looking at her name I managed to find both "bandage" and "came from the deer forest", so what could I do but something for both?
Taissa had tried so hard not to think about the Yellowjackets, about her time in the forest. She was in college now, on the path to starting off her political career, she wanted people to know her for her achievements now, not for anything that happened in her past.
It had been the stupidest thing that had made her start thinking about her time in the forest again; she’d cut her hand in some kind of freak accident with a can opener in senior year, and Simone had bandaged it up for her, and suddenly Taissa had been back in the wilderness again. She’d cut her arm quite badly there, not that long after Jackie died, and Van had taken care of her, ripping off the bottom of her own shirt to create a makeshift bandage for her.
Taissa knew she shouldn’t still be thinking of Van; they’d broken up for a reason. While Taissa wanted to move forward with her life and career, Van was still there in her mind, still thinking about things like what the wilderness had wanted, and Taissa had known she couldn’t move forward and shut the door on the wilderness while still with Van. Simone represented the future, the life Taissa had wanted for herself, yet that night Taissa had found herself lying awake thinking of Van once more.
Bonus drabble about Crystal/Kristin and Misty:
The name Crystal meant ice; some might have called that fitting, considering the frozen Canadian wilderness which had ended up being her last resting place.
Knowing now that Crystal was, in fact, a mere mishearing of Kristin which Crystal had chosen not to correct once the Yellowjackets had dubbed her Crystal the Pistol, Misty had looked up the meaning of the name Kristin. The name derived from Christina, an early saint, a 17th century Scandinavian queen; the meaning of Misty’s best friend’s actual name was so much more fitting for the warmhearted person that Kristin really was.
